MIDDLE 3
Once a friend who lived in Kanpur, the leather town of India, thought IF sending a gift to a friend, a modest but significant one. His friend lived in Ballabgarh – a small town in Haryana. He bought a pair of “Chappals”, packed them nicely and sent it through parcel post.
When the parcel arrived, the friend in Ballabgarh felt both happy and annoyed – happy that his friend had shown some love and annoyed because the chappals did not fit his feet. So he wrote back and got a prompt reply that the leather must have shrunk on the way.
The man in Ballabgarh also thought of paying back in some coin. His town also made lots of earthen pots and pitchers. So he picked up a pitcher and went to the post office for sending a parcel. The post office did not accept the article being fragile and difficult to handle due to its volume.
The man thought and thought and decided to break the pitcher and send the gift in a smaller pieces but in well packed parcels.
When the parcel arrived in Kanpur, his friend was amazed to receive the shattered pot. He promptly wrote back and by return mail and promptly received the reply justifying that the pot must have shrunk in transit.
Our Kanpur friend had no choice but to wonder with amusement as to how wise and truthful his friend was.
