MIDDLE 1
PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND UNTIL
Ram is a
production supervisor. He was highly safety minded and took pains to preach and enforce safety in his plant.
One day, he
saw Sham riding as a passenger on the
fork lift truck in the isle of the factory. He told Sham it was not safe to
travel on the fork lift machine as a passenger. Sham nodded in agreement but did
not get off the vehicle and went on
his way.
After a
while, he again saw Sham travelling the same way. Ram stopped the vehicle and
once again told Sham to not do this unsafe practice. He told him forcefully,
that he could get hurt and even land in the hospital. This could even cause
hardship to his family because of his absence from work. Sham again nodded in
affirmative but did not budge from the truck.
Once again,
Ram saw Sham coming along perched on the fork lift. This time he acosted him with authority.
“Haven’t I told you that you are indulging in unsafe practice?” Said Ram with consternation.
“Yes!” said Sham. “But then get the hell down of the vehicle, that is what I
want,” ordered Ram harshly.
“Ok! But
you never told me to do so,” retorted Sham and got down from the truck.
This is one
of the real life incidents that happens almost every day everywhere. People need to be told
specifically and clearly what they are expected to do. Clear, concise and
direct communications really yield results.
